Children Ministries
Kid's Church
At City Church, we view children as special treasures in the Kingdom of God. We want our children to know about God, but more importantly to know Him and to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. We believe that they have a divine destiny and want them to be spiritually strong and equipped to do what God wants them to do.
Whereas, in the past, children's ministry may have been viewed simply as a babysitting service, when the adults get the “real” message downstairs, we aim to present the “real” gospel to them in tangible lessons and language relevant to them.
God's Word:
We place a strong emphasis on Scripture. We teach that the Bible is God's word for today, and in it are His promises, His heart, and His answers for all of life's issues.
Prayer:
Each time we meet we pray for our children's needs, as well as give them opportunity for them to pray for the needs of others. There has been many times they can see the answers to their prayers within the week.
Armor of God
We believe that each child has a divine destiny from God, and we train them up to use their spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:11), so that they can fulfill their destiny.
Walking in the Spirit
We believe that when a child receives salvation, one of God's promises is that he is “sealed with the Holy Spirit.” (Ephesians 1:13) As David Walters, a children's pastor, said, “God does not differentiate between an adult and a child, only giving a child “a little” Holy Spirit, but He gives the child the same Holy Spirit as He would give the adult. God is no respecter of persons. He gives graciously to all who asks.
We teach our children about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, beginning with Praying in Tongues, and encouraging them to move in each one of the Gifts that the Holy Spirit gives them. We regularly give them time to “practice” using their gifts, so that when they are out with their friends and families, it is a natural extension of what they've already learned at home and the classroom. You could call it “On the job training.”
My Sheep Hear My Voice
We also give our children time to learn to hear God's voice. The young boy, Samuel, from the Bible, began to hear God's voice at a very young age, but hadn't recognized Who was speaking. We train them to listen for Jesus' voice, and how to discern what the Lord is saying; emphasizing that it always agrees with God's word, it's encouraging, and that it shows God's love. We do give opportunities for the children to practice hearing God's voice and receive feedback. We encourage them to do the same at home with Mom & Dad.
Mentoring
We encourage the older children to mentor the younger children in prayer and Bible learning as we have opportunities for both groups to have lessons together on occasion. This encourages the older to care for the younger as well as fosters a “family” environment.
These Works and Greater Shall You Do
Jesus said, “Anyone who believes in Me, shall do these works (signs and wonders and miracles) and greater, because I go to the Father. (John 14:12) We, at City Church of Albuquerque, actually believe this scripture, and by His grace and power, we give ourselves to the One who gave His life for us, so that He can use us to affect those around us. We, by His grace and power, are also training up our children to believe Jesus to use them to change those lives around them for His glory.
Our workers actively seek God's Heart for our Children and treat it as a privilege to be involved with our Kid's spiritual growth. We hope we can serve you in leading you and your children into a greater walk with Jesus.
